Hi there. My name is Nata, I’m a filmmaker turned narrative designer. That means I make up stories for all kinds of things that you can play, watch, or experience. Video games, interactive series, narrative VR, immersive shows, Unreal Engine 5 animation. You name it, I’ve done it. Or at least tried to.
What’s this about?
This is my (more or less) monthly newsletter where I share with you the stuff that helps me do what I do. Or makes me think I can do it. Or just distracts me from doing it. Narrative design, screen- and game writing, interactive storytelling, dealing with writer's block, streamlining creative process, and exploring the ways we'll be telling stories in the foreseeable future — all those things, unevenly distributed.
Who is it for?
It will certainly be helpful to students and folks at the early stage of their careers, as well as for creative professionals from other industries who want to work in game development. Or, if you, like me, are writer or a narrative designer who's interested in peeking at their colleagues' creative process.
Who am I?
I began my career as a copywriter working with global brands, then pivoted to startups, then to filmmaking. I co-founded an award-winning indie studio, wrote a textbook on interactive storytelling (in Russian), had to shut down the studio when Russia started the full-scale war in Ukraine, and joined Wargaming in 2023 as a narrative designer.
